Description
“The Morning After is a music project by Hank Smith and his infamous banjo. This new project’s front woman is Rachael Koontz, she brings a rich soulful sound to the group. The other members are Shawn Chase on the mandolin, Mike Rosado on drums, and Jamie Dawson on bass. Pattie Hopkins and her fiddle is slated to join the group in the very near future. I really liked the laid back style of the music as well as the wide spectrum of instruments. The different sounds complemented each other in spite of (or maybe because of) the differences in instruments and styles. ” – Hunter Lee Elliot: Matter of Fact Art
See them both at The Pinhook this Saturday at 10:00PM for only $6. Doors open at 9:00PM.
The Lizzy Ross Band – Ross’s voice delivers a charming trill one moment, only to erupt in rough, bluesy emotion the next. It’s a powerful instrument that’s earned her comparisons to artists like Grace Potter and Edie Brickell among others. Lizzy Ross recently won the Best Rock Female of 2011 at the nationally recognized Carolina Music Awards, as well as an Emerging Artist Grant from the Durham Arts Council. She was named one of two “Best New Songwriters” by Former Universal Music Publishing Creative Director Scott Gunter. In June 2010 Lizzy Ross released her debut solo album, Traces, which was Nominated for HGMN’s (Home Grown Music Network) 2010 album of the year.
